herb «urb, hurb», noun.
1. a plant whose leaves or stems are used for medicine, seasoning, food, or perfume. Sage, mint, caraway, and lavender are herbs.
2. a flowering plant whose stems live only one season. Herbs do not usually form woody tissue as shrubs and trees do, though their roots may live many years. Peonies, buttercups, corn, wheat, cabbage, and lettuce are herbs. Herbs can be annuals, such as corn, or biennials, such as the onion, but most are perennials, such as the rose.
